A Santa Fe physician, Lynore Martinez, has opened the newest branch of a national medical company, The Center for Medical Weight Loss.

Martinez, a New Mexico native who attended The University of New Mexico School of Medicine, completed her medical studies in obstetrics and gynecology at St. Joseph Hospital in Houston.

She has practiced in Santa Fe since 2000 and in 2005 started her own local practice, Santa Fe Ob/Gyn.

Established in 2005 the Center for Weight Loss, or CMWL, "is the first national network of physicians to bring trained medical expertise to the field of commercial weight loss," a statement said. There are 298 centers in 43 states.

The center offers a long-term weight-loss approach managed with the support of medical professionals.

According to founder Dr. Michael S. Kaplan, a central factor in those dealing with excess weight is addiction to food and an unhealthy eating pattern. A primary goal his approach, the statement said, is to "break food addictions and help patients reach a healthy target weight quickly."

A recent business story had a local store owner claiming there was no cloth diaper service in Santa Fe.

That's true, but there is one in Pecos, by the name of Tiny Tots Santa Fe, and it does provide service in Santa Fe and elsewhere in the area.

The business is owned by Ranee and Gene Orona, who can be reached at either 505-204-1653 or 505-757-2281.

The Oronas have a Web site, www.tinytotssf.com.

They've had the business for the last five years, but things have gotten tough lately, apparently because of the weak economy. "We're down to our last 10 customers," Ranee said.

The Santa Fe Chamber of Commerce and chamber member businesses Pak Mail and Homewise have signed up to help collect gently used prom dresses for Santa Fe Prep's Prom Closet project. The project will collect and donate dresses shoes and accessories to high school students who can not otherwise afford these items.

Several Prep students are fulfilling their community service requirement this year by launching the Santa Fe Prom Closet. They are working under the direction of Rennae Ross, Prep's physical education department chair and prom coordinator.

Kathleen and Del Mulder of Pak Mail were the first business owners to offer their business as a donation drop-off point.

The Santa Fe Chamber of Commerce, 8380 Cerrillos Road, has also made its location available as a drop-off point and has contacted other chamber members to help.

For more information, call the chamber at 988-3279.
