Homeowners will get more information about their property taxes under a measure that has passed the House.
Rep. Alonzo Baldonado, a Los Lunas Republican, said the legislation will help alert homeowners to potential increases in their property taxes.
The measure will require county assessors to expand the annual notices sent each spring that show the taxable value of property.
If the legislation is enacted, the notices also will disclose the property tax and valuation from the previous year. A mill levy rate will be provided to allow homeowners to calculate an estimated tax for the next year.
The House approved the bill Thursday on a 65-3 vote and sent it the Senate for consideration.
