11-year-old boy injured in ATV crash

An 11-year-old Santa Fe boy was seriously injured Friday evening when the all-terrain vehicle he was on overturned on a trail in La Cienega, the Sheriff's Department said.

Edgar Rodriguez was riding on the ATV driven by Mario Rodriguez, 15, also of Santa Fe, when the older youth lost control and the vehicle flipped over along Nancy's Trail about 6 p.m., said Undersheriff Robert Garcia. The boys' relationship was not disclosed other than that they were not brothers, but they had been attending a family gathering.

Edgar Rodriguez was flown to The University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque with major head trauma, Garcia said. Mario Rodriguez was treated for minor injuries at Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center.

Edgar remained in critical condition Sunday, Garcia said. Neither boy was believed to be wearing a helmet. Alcohol was not considered a factor, although speed was.

Second death at refinery confirmed

ARTESIA — A second man is confirmed dead in last week's refinery explosion and fire at Navajo Refinery in the southeastern New Mexico community of Artesia.

Authorities located one body immediately after the March 2 fire, but had said a second man was missing and presumed dead.

Navajo Refinery's parent company, Holly Corp. of Dallas, announced Saturday the second fatality had been confirmed.

Artesia police earlier identified the two men as Natividad Andajo of Odessa, Texas, and Victor Villa of Midland, Texas.

Plane makes emergency landing on I-25

ALBUQUERQUE — A small plane mad a safe emergency landing on Interstate 25 in Los Lunas.

The Valencia County Sheriff's Department says the plane had to land Saturday morning because of engine failure.

The pilot was the only one on board and was not injured.

I-25 was shut down for about an hour while the plane was moved off the interstate.
