The man who caused two accidents at the same intersection Wednesday afternoon was charged with leaving the scene of an accident, not having a driver's license and two counts of careless driving, police said.

George Medina, 56, was involved with a hit-and-run at the intersection of Pacheco Street and St. Michael's Drive, and moments later struck a vehicle carrying three passengers, including an infant, at the same intersection.

James Tunick, 23, said he saw the first accident while heading toward Cerrillos Road at the intersection of Pacheco Street and St. Michael's Drive.

Tunick said was in the far-left lane and saw Medina "fly past" him and rear-end a woman who was stopped at the red light. Tunick said Medina signaled the woman to pull over but drove past her when she did. Tunick then followed Medina down Espinacitas Street and got out of the car to convince Medina to stop and go back to the scene of the accident.

"He did not want to go back no matter what I tried," Tunick said. "He wouldn't get out of the car, he wouldn't do anything."

Medina drove around Tunick and continued driving back toward St. Michael's Drive. Tunick also drove toward St. Michael's Drive to see if the woman who had been rear-ended was all right. That's when the second accident happened.

Medina was driving toward St. Francis Drive and ran a red light at the intersection of Pacheco Street and St. Michael's Drive, colliding with a Chevy Tahoe that was making a left-hand turn from Pacheco Street onto St. Michael's Drive. The Chevy Tahoe flipped on its side and the three passengers, two women and an infant, were pulled from the car by another witness, Tunick said.

The victims suffered minor injuries and were taken to Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center, police said.

Tunick said after the second accident Medina was trying to put his car in gear and flee the scene again.

Police said the Kia Sportage Medina was driving belonged to his girlfriend.

Officers determined alcohol and drugs were not a factor in the accidents.
