Our state was well-represented at this year’s Golden Globe Awards. Made-in-New Mexico Game Change won Best Mini-Series, and stars Julianne Moore and Ed Harris walked away with acting prizes. Moore kept the New Mexico party going in a gown designed by Santa Fean Tom Ford. And Argo (which stars our neighbor Alan Arkin and the man who made Albuquerque a TV tourism destination, Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston), won Best Motion Picture, Drama, as well as Best Director for Ben Affleck’s amazing work.

Is Breaking Bad a conservative show? That’s what Fox News’ Dana Perino thinks. The host said the Albuquerque meth drama is “one of the most conservative shows on television because there’s consequences for your bad decisions,” as opposed to reality shows they’d been discussing, like Here Comes Honey Boo Boo and All My Baby Mamas.

False alarm for those worried about reports of reshoots for The Lone Ranger. The Johnny Depp film, which was shot in part in New Mexico, has had its share of problems over the years with production delays and a bloated budget. But Disney called the rumors of reshoots and a new character “100% untrue.” The film comes out July 3 and, honestly, La Mitotera can’t wait. There’s been so much hype, doubt and speculation around this production, and really, we won’t know what’s what until we watch the finished product for ourselves. Here’s hoping it’s worth all the bad juju that has surrounded this film almost from the start.

The Travel Channel is profiling New Mexico’s best hamburgers mid-February. Guiding the tour will be The New Mexican’s own Rob DeWalt, a former chef and restaurant consultant who will give filmmaker George Motz his own take on Bobcat Bite and Bode’s General Store and Café in Abiquiú.

Actress Jaimie Alexander opened up to Collider this week about the sequel to the made-in-New Mexico adventure Thor. Alexander, who plays Sif, the goddess of war, said of directors Kenneth Branagh (Thor) and Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World), “the second installment of Thor is much darker, much more rooted in what’s going on in the soul, whereas Ken’s version definitely had that soulfulness but was also lighter and there’s an elegance to his film.” The actress also said New Mexico was magical and talked about filming The Last Stand — released this week — with Arnold Schwarzenegger.

A new magazine based out of Santa Fe called First American Art will soon be out in print and on the Web. The magazine “promotes and critically analyzes the arts of indigenous peoples of the Americas” and hopes to be “the bridge between academia and the general public.” Learn more at firstamericanartmagazine.com.
