Desperate housewives weaken U.S. intelligence

This headline is hardly news. Isn’t Psychology 101 in the West Point curriculum? The gender war is over, gentlemen, and we have lost. Choose your battles well, at least with better intelligence.

Pit rule protection

Back in 2007, after 18 days of hearings, including input from the oil and gas industry, the pit rule was established to ensure the future safety of New Mexico’s water supply. With wide support and valuable consensus already earned with the pit rule, it’s scary that a few individuals can now threaten that safeguard. Around our fragile planet, others watch and cry out for similar protection. New Mexicans — hey! Let’s please stop draining time, our health and our intelligence just to suit some immediate partisan gain and game.

A new version

It seems that Generals Petraeus and Allen have their own version of “don’t ask, don’t tell.”

Listings not the same

The way we (and, I suspect, most readers) use the TV section has been disrupted by the new arrangement of the listings. We typically look at all of the listings for each day at the same time in order to select the show we want to see. We do not want to look at advertising when we are attempting to use the TV section. I’m sure the advertisers like this arrangement better, but I thought the TV section was for viewers.

‘Our President, Our Leader’

He is truly a man who stands alone.

He is a man to whom sometimes little respect is shown.

He seldom receives credit — when credit is due.

Instead, he is severely criticized for what he did or didn’t do.

Nevertheless, he’s the man at the top,

He is the man we credit with our every flop.

We should remember who got him where he currently is;

Until his term has expired or comes to an ebbing fizz.

Have respect for your fellow Americans who voted him in,

For “hating” our leader is an avoidable sin.

We can’t change the voice of the “majority” that’s a true fact.

So have a little respect, and use a little tact.

As a nation it’s our duty to pray:

“Lord be with our Leader each and every day.”

We need to pull together and not pull apart,

For “Unity” is what propels America’s heart.

Missing the lessons

The two commentaries about same-sex marriage on the Opinions page, (“Same-sex marriage wins at polls” and “Leviticus turns up in marriage debate,” Nov. 12) sure missed what the Bible teaches about homosexuality. In Romans, it says they know in their hearts they are doing wrong, become fools and exchange the truth of God for the lie.

In Genesis, Sodom had mainly homosexuals. God told Abraham he would not destroy Sodom if there were 10 righteous people, but there weren’t even that many there. Our country is going the way of Sodom, as fewer than 50 percent go to church. Of that, about a third of them really believe the Bible is true. God means what he says and our country is due for judgment. The only solution to our problem is not more programs or money, but turning back to the God of our Founding Fathers.
