July 4, 1983: The helter-skelter proliferation and scattering of travel trailers near The Downs, often without proper sewage or garbage facilities, has raised the ire of county commissioners.

The seasonal horse racing season draws workers from all over who are desperate for a place to park or rent for the summer.

In response, commissioners have directed county staff to start a summer-long investigation and crackdown on litter and zoning violators, taking offenders to court if necessary.
