Fate — and the postseason — are in the hands of the Cowboys of New Mexico Highlands University.
NMHU is on the cusp of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference baseball tournament after taking three games against Colorado Christian at Brandt Field on Thursday.
Highlands won the resumption of a suspended game, 17-14, and swept the regularly scheduled doubleheader 17-5 and 17-2.
The Cowboys (23-24 overall, 17-21 RMAC) can clinch a spot with a sweep of today's doubleheader against the Cougars to complete the regular season.
"We did what we needed to do," NMHU head coach Steve Jones said. "If we won all three, we were setting pretty good. The guys played relaxed."
Clay Mohr had 10 hits overall for the Cowboys, including a pair of home runs in the suspended game. Erik Scott was 4-for-4 and drove in three runs in Game 3.
UNM's Adams gets suspended
ALBUQUERQUE — New Mexico men's basketball coach Steve Alford has suspended a player for the first four games of next season after the player's arrest on a charge of drunken driving.
Sophomore Chad Adams also was cited over the weekend on charges of reckless driving and driving with a suspended license.
Alford says he takes the issue of drunken driving seriously.
KOB television reports Alford required Adams to issue a public apology.
Adams' said in his apology Wednesday he's embarrassed for his poor choices, and he promised to use the opportunity to educate others about the dangers of drinking and driving.
The player also will not be on scholarship for the summer, and will have to pay for summer school.
Alford also is requiring Adams to get counseling.
