InnerPartySystem has released their newest album,
Never Be Content, and it contains only six songs, which is a downfall. The album doesn’t sound as good as the band’s previous album —
The Download EP — either. The songs in this album are awful.
InnerPartySystem has moved away from its former glory onto a new sound that doesn’t exactly please the listener’s ears. The previous album had many great singles that produced a great electronic-rock sound. The new album, on the other hand, tries (and fails) to reach a more mainstream electronic sound that doesn’t quite fit the band’s style.
The single “Not Getting Any Better” is eight minutes long and quite bland as opposed to InnerPartySystem’s former tunes that were both original and catchy. Instead, this single sounds like it should be played in an elevator — a very electronic and dancey elevator, yes, but a bland and boring elevator nevertheless.
Now, to address the singing. Auto-tune seems to be very popular with InnerPartySystem’s lead singer. I must admit it doesn’t sound bad ... it just doesn’t sound very good. It has the quality of a robotic chipmunk at times.
I wouldn’t suggest this album to any of my friends. It doesn’t show the band’s true potential nor does it show the catchiness of their compositions. Compared to InnerPartySystem’s previous album, this album was a major let down and turned me away from this band for the time being. Thumbs down.
