If you're a rapper, you probably talk about one of three topics in your songs: How much money you think you are making; the many imaginary women the money gets you; or politics. The political side of rap is not only just as catchy as the pathetic music played on the radio, but it preaches equality, acceptance and the importance of education.
Although The Knux primarily rides on the wave of the political music scene, their debut album Remind Me In 3 Days (2008) is not so stuffed with preaching that it suffocates the ridiculous beats. The album has not yet broken into the popular music scene, but with recent appearances on Fuse.tv and one of their songs featured on MTV's new show Daddy's Girls, they should have no problem making a name for themselves.
Besides their meaningful lyrics, The Knux's songs are made more unique by their obscure mix of rap and rock. Though it would seem that the two might clash, deep bass and heavy chords fighting for the spotlight, the two complement each other like brothers and band mates Krispy Kreme and Rah Al Millio themselves.
Kreme and Millio have the geeky style of Andre 3000 and a lyrical style similar to Common. With chunky glasses and plaid shirts, the two don't appear to be rappers, but when they have mikes in their hands, there is no mistaking their skill.
Their first single "Bang Bang" is the ideal mix of beats and guitar. The lyrics speak of the great levels of violence in our society, and along with the mesmerizing, repetitive chorus and high-energy tune, this song is perfect for driving or pump up music.
The album's lyrics discuss racial tension and the lack of acceptance in our society, and its beat is über-catchy.
Overall, Remind Me In 3 Days is a must-own.
