The Hope For Haiti Now album is the result of the successful televised concert benefit of the same name. Hosted by George Clooney, the telethon raised more than $57 million to be donated directly to nine charities that are working to rebuild disaster-stricken Haiti.
The album that came out of this telethon is amazing. It's nearly impossible to pick a favorite song, but one that seems to stand out from the bunch is Justin Timberlake and Matt Morris' rendition of "Hallelujah." From the remarkable harmony of their two voices to the incredibly timed addition of the guitar, this song is practically perfect.
"Hallelujah" is followed closely by "Lean On Me" sung by Sheryl Crow, Kid Rock and Keith Urban, and Christina Aguilera's new song, "Lift Me Up." Their performances were soulful and moving.
The only song that stands out as a mistake is "Stranded (Haiti Mon Amour)" by Jay-Z, Rihanna and Bono. Though these three artists are usually amazing, "Stranded" left me confused and disappointed. A combination of three powerhouses in this case led to a song with a good message but a horrible beat that isn't even the slightest bit catchy.
Hope For Haiti Now is worth buying not only for the incredible music but also to support an amazing cause.
