The Kings of Leon are one of those bands it's hard to not fall in love with. Their raw entrancing vocals and melodious guitar make it extremely hard to keep the lyrics of "Sex on Fire" from leaking out of your lips at any given moment.
The most recent release from this Tennessee band — Caleb Followill, Jared Followill, Matthew Followill and Nathan Followill — Only By The Night is a strange mix of rock, acoustic and some odd sounds that normally would not be found in the songs of any other artist. Overall, this mix tastes delicious, but some parts of it don't seem to fit in as well as others. "I Want You" with its country-style guitar and whiny love-story lyrics seems as though it would fit in better at a Tim McGraw concert.
The Kings compensated for this little slip-up with songs like "Use Somebody." This hopeful profession of love tells the story of a lonely man who at the moment he took a break from his hectic life, realized that all he needs is someone to care about. His desire to be loved is echoed in the backup vocals relentless "oh-whoa-oh-oh-whoa-oh" and the heartfelt lyrics, which together make a fabulous tune that's constantly stuck in the brain.
If you enjoy semi-sappy rock with non-altered vocals, Kings of Leon's Only By The Night is just right for you.
