Our very own Santa Fe High students (including yours truly) are putting on a show — literally and metaphorically. The end-of-the-year show is the musical, Footloose, based off the 1984 movie starring Kevin Bacon.
The original music is by Tom Snow (among others) and the lyrics are by Dean Pitchford (with additional lyrics by Kenny Loggins). Santa Fe High School theater students and others have put forth tremendous effort into making their rendition Footloose, which is also based on the original Broadway performance, a huge success.
The actors in this performance sing better than any other pervious high school production of Footloose. The pit band will also perform all the music with great gusto in this humorous production. There are two casts in this show, both of which are made up of students who participate in the theater, choir and Demon Pride Band programs at Santa Fe High. Reed Mechefske directs this production into a exciting and emotional musical, while Marilyn Barnes conducts the pit band and the singers. The choreography is done by Donna Scheer.
The Santa Fe High theater program has outdone itself with this musical. The show has been described by the cast as "an evening of one child, Ren McCormack, trying to change the ridiculous rules of a small town! Watch the laughs, the tears and the romance unfold in the city of Bomont!"
The musical is about a high school senior (McCormick), who moves to the town of Bomont. Inadvertently, with his dance moves and love of music, McCormick causes trouble within the sheltered town and falls in love with the reverend's daughter.
The reverend, however, does not approve, especially when McCormick challenges him in front of the town council about the law that forbids dancing.
That's just a little taste of what we have in store for you. I encourage everyone to come see Footloose and support our arts programs.
